LYMECYCLINE
AFTERCARE ADVICE

Lymecycline is an antibiotic It is used mainly for Acne and Acne Rosacea. Lymecycline is only available on prescription. It comes as capsules that you swallow.

KEY FACTS

  • For acne, it’s usual to take lymecycline once a day.
  • Common side effects are feeling sick, tummy pain, diarrhoea and headaches. But these tend to be mild and
    short lived.
  • You can drink alcohol while taking Lymecycline.
  • Lymecycline is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
    Lymecycline is not suitable for children under the age of 12 years. It can build up in growing teeth and
    permanently stain them.
  • The brand name for lymecycline is Tetralysal 300.

WHO CAN & CAN’T TAKE LYMECYCLINE

Lymecycline can be taken by adults and children over the age of 12 years.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Allergic reaction to lymecycline or any other medicine in the past
  • Kidney problems
  • Pregnant or Breastfeeding
  • Liver problems
  • Lupus
  • Myasthenia Gravis a rare muscle-weakening disease

DIRECTIONS

Take one capsule of Lymecycline once a day, this can be taken in the morning but some people find it helpful to take at night before sleeping to reduce the incidence of nausea. Each capsule contains 408mg of lymecycline.

Swallow the capsule whole, along with a glassful of water.

You will be provided with a two month course of treatment, you should complete the course. You may not experience improvement in your condition until the end of the treatment course and your practitioner may extend the course of treatment.

IF YOU FORGET TO TAKE YOUR MEDICINE

If you forget to take your medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s nearly time for your next dose. In this case, just leave out the missed dose and take your next dose as normal. Never take an extra dose to make up for a forgotten one. And never take 2 doses at the same time.  

 

WHAT IF I TAKE TOO MUCH

Taking an extra dose of lymecycline by accident is unlikely to cause any harm.  Please contact your practitioner if you are concerned about this or any of the following side-effects.

SIDE EFFECTS

Side effects are not experienced by everyone

Common Side Effects

  • feeling sick
  • abdominal pain
  • diarrhoea
  • headache

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS

Serious side effects are rare.  You should stop taking lymecycline and tell a doctor straight away if you experience

  • yellow skin or eyes (this can be a warning sign of liver problems)
  • your skin becomes very sensitive to the sun

 

SERIOUS ALLERGIC REACTION

It is possible to have a serious allergic reaction to lymecycline.

A serious allergic reaction is an emergency and you should ensure that you seek immediate medical assistance The warning signs of a serious allergic reaction are

  • skin rash that may include itchy, red, swollen, blistered or peeling skin
  • wheezing
  • tightness in the chest or throat
  • having trouble breathing or talking
  • swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat

 

MEDICINES WHICH INTERACT

Tell your practitioner if you’re taking these medicines before starting lymecycline

  • supplements containing aluminium, bismuth, calcium, magnesium or zinc
  • indigestion remedies antacids
  • iron supplements
  • quinapril, a medicine for night blood pressure or heart failure
  • acne medicines containing vitamin A, such as Isotretanoin (Roaccutane)
  • blood thinner, such as warfarin
  • diuretic tablets such as furosemide
  • medicines for epilepsy, such as phenytoin or carbamazepine

MIXING WITH HERBAL REMEDIES & SUPPLEMENTS

There are no known problems with taking herbal remedies and supplements with lymecycline.

I understand that though complications are uncommon, they do sometimes occur. I understand if I suffer any adverse reactions that are not expected, or concern me, I must contact my practitioner, and book a review appointment.  MD Medical Aesthetics Ltd cannot take responsibility for complications or results that have not been reported, assessed, documented and managed in a timely manner.  Whilst I have been advised of the probable result, this cannot be interpreted as a guarantee. Results vary from one individual to another.

I confirm that the medical health history form has been completed truthfully and I am fully aware that withholding medical information, including history of previous treatment, may be detrimental to the safe and optimal outcome of any treatment administered.  If there are any changes in my medical history, I must inform the practitioner.
